Raise prices now, or in January?
Work · Board of 3We sell a $29-a-month tool to about 600 small businesses. Churn is 3% a month. Do we raise to $39 now, or wait until January when most renewals come up?

The board’s call
Raise it for new customers now, and for existing ones in January with 60 days’ notice and the old price kept for a year on annual plans.
A $10 rise is about a third more per customer: you would have to lose about a quarter of your customers over it before it cost you money. New customers never saw the old price, so the rise costs nothing there; existing ones decide at renewal anyway, so January with notice is the fair moment.

The Customer disagreed
“Small businesses read a price rise as a signal. Tell them what got better since they joined, or the notice is the thing they remember.”
