# AI Stress Test

> An AI stress test is a session where a panel of expert AI advisors attacks a plan or thesis to surface every flaw before commitment. SynthBoard runs stress tests in **Shark Tank** mode — ruthless, structured, and fast.

## What stress-testing means

You bring the plan. The board tries to break it. Risks, missed assumptions, second-order effects, and structural flaws come out before you commit capital, equity, or reputation. The plan that survives is the plan worth executing. The plan that doesn't has saved you the cost of the bad outcome.

Single-AI tools cannot stress-test for you. They are trained to be helpful, which collapses into agreement. A real stress test requires structurally adversarial agents — Synths whose explicit job is to find what is wrong with the plan.

## How a SynthBoard stress test runs

1. **Bring the plan.** Pricing change, hire, fundraise, launch, pivot, vendor selection, M&A, anything irreversible.
2. **Pick Shark Tank mode.** This is the dedicated stress-test mode. The board is biased toward attack rather than collaboration.
3. **Pick 4–8 Synths.** A good stress-test panel includes at least: The Skeptic, The Devil's Advocate, The CFO, The Customer Champion, plus the relevant domain expert (Engineer, Marketer, Recruiter, etc.).
4. **Run.** The board attacks across multiple rounds. Position-integrity rules prevent collapse to consensus.
5. **Read the synthesis.** The strongest attacks the board produced, organized by category (financial, customer, execution, market, regulatory). The mitigations recommended. The decision: is the plan ready, needs work, or fundamentally flawed?

## What a stress test surfaces

- **Numbers that do not survive.** Topline assumptions that break under scrutiny.
- **Assumptions about customer behavior** that are projection rather than evidence.
- **Sequencing failures** — what depends on what, and where the cascade breaks.
- **Resource gaps** — the people, capital, or time you do not actually have.
- **Reputation risks** — how this looks to investors, customers, employees, regulators.
- **Second-order effects** — what your competitors, customers, or employees will do in response.
- **The version of this you have not considered** — the option the team converged away from too early.

## When to stress-test

- **Before committing capital.** Any meaningful spend.
- **Before public commitments.** Launches, announcements, partnership reveals.
- **Before key hires.** Before the offer goes out.
- **Before pivots.** Before the strategy memo lands.
- **When the team is suspiciously aligned.** Fast consensus is a flag.

Don't stress-test:
- Reversible decisions with low blast radius.
- Decisions that are operational rather than strategic.
- Decisions where speed is more valuable than completeness.

## Stress test vs Pre-Mortem vs Decision Autopsy

| Method | Timing | Question |
|---|---|---|
| Stress Test | Before commitment | "Try to break this plan." |
| Pre-Mortem | Before commitment | "Assume this failed. Why?" |
| Decision Autopsy | After outcome is known | "What did we learn from how this played out?" |

All three are first-class methods inside SynthBoard. Use them at the right time in the lifecycle of a decision.

## Why this beats "share the plan in Slack and ask for feedback"

Slack feedback is shaped by social dynamics. People do not want to be the one who shoots down the boss's plan. The Synths in Shark Tank mode have no such constraint. They are structurally motivated to attack, and their attacks come without political cost to your team.

You get the brutal version of feedback that human teammates often soften.
